Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the science and art of getting targeted traffic to your website from Google, Yahoo, MSN and the other search engines (OK, let’s be honest, it’s all about Google). As SEO Consultants, what we’re trying to do is figure out what search terms (keywords) your consumers use to find content like yours. Then we use those keywords to optimize your web pages and build links into your site. In a nutshell, that’s it (wow, it sounds so simple when you put it like that!).
If we do our job right, Google (and Yahoo, MSN etc.) will associate your site with those keywords and send you traffic. If we did the keyword research right, the people who find your site will be your target customers. Those visitors will find your site relevant to their search and they will buy your products, fill out your contact form, download your white paper or whatever else you’d like them to do on your site.
SEO is an ongoing process of keyword research, content creation, optimization, analysis and link building (hmm, now it’s sounding a bit more complicated). As long as search engines are around, SEO will be too and if you want to tap into the buying power of more than 755 million unique web searchers (appx. 73.2 trillion search queries a year), you need SEO.
At eBoost, we take a methodical approach to SEO services. Before doing anything, we run through a comprehensive analysis of your site and your competitors’ sites. We survey the organic search landscape to see where you are now and what it will take to get you where you need to go.
SEO, the eBoost Way, breaks down like this:
Everything is based on the Keyword Research. We are looking for keywords that are relevant to your consumers, have a relatively high search volume and relatively low competition. We need to balance those three factors to find the perfect keywords to optimize your site for. Luckily, we have the EKS (eBoost Keyword Strength) formula to help us do just that. Once the keywords are chosen, we create your customized SEO Guide. This is where On Page Optimization comes in. We use our keywords in prominent HTML elements on the appropriate pages of your website while focusing on user experience just as closely as search engine robots. This isn’t about stuffing keywords into meta tags. This is about crafting optimized web pages that work well for robots and humans alike. We also make sure your website adheres to all SEO best practices both on site and off.
But we don’t just optimize your website once then send you off into the sunset. At eBoost, we stay with you each step of the way, doing the crucial SEO work your site needs to reach the top of Google and send qualified traffic your way on a daily basis.
We create a customized SEO plan for each client and then revisit that plan every month to make sure the strategy is still relevant and effective. There are no pre-made packages or buckets to get dumped into here. Each site is unique, each industry is unique and that is reflected in the way eBoost approaches SEO. We have almost limitless tactics at our disposal. We pick and choose those tactics based on what fits best into our comprehensive marketing strategy while always keeping in mind branding, marketing message, and user experience.
eBoost engaged with a client in the Science and Technology industry whose database-driven website was in need of a dramatic increase in organic search traffic. The company was not profitable because it did not have the visibility needed for the business model to work. The site was in need of a dramatic increase in organic search traffic.
On the bright side, the consumers that were using the site loved it. It was unique and served an important purpose within the industry. However, though the site had literally tens of millions of pages, when eBoost came on board, Google was indexing less than 70 pages of the site total!
The website had a good number of inbound links from high authority websites. It was also a genuinely useful site that naturally attracted links on a regular basis. There were some assets to work with here. The main problem was that the search engines couldn’t find 99.9% of the site’s pages due to 3 main issues:
eBoost had to figure out a way to get Google to index the pages by making the navigation spiderable without sacrificing design, while taking tens of millions of dynamic pages and turning them into static HTML pages that Google could see.
This was a unique situation – not your everyday SEO client. So we were really able to show off our customized approach to SEO. eBoost did the following to get the site’s SEO back on track:
We directed Google to 1 million pages of the site at a time, waited for it to crawl the pages and then moved on to the next million. It was our hope that the number of pages being indexed would skyrocket along with the number of visitors and product purchases.
Within three months, the number of indexed pages in Google had gone from 65 to over 467,000. While traffic stayed relatively steady from all other sources, organic search engine traffic saw a stratospheric rise:
