Case Study

Situation

A client in the outdoor advertising industry who’s website was a simple brochure website came to us and asked if we could transition their site to an ecommerce site. There were no products on the website and limited content. Customers would contact the client by phone to order products and then communicate by email to work out the product customization and proofing. eBoost came on board in the pre-planning stages and worked with the client over 14 months to develop a custom ecommerce solution.

Challenge

The client had unique needs due to the high customization required for each product. Prior to beginning design and development eBoost ran the client through the Persona Development process. After creating four personas around the target customer segments it was apparent that customers needed the ability to:

Approach

eBoost sat down with the client and created a detailed project schedule. Each phase was outlined for internal and external teams. Plausible user case scenarios were created for each persona. This process prioritized the customer from the start:

Future decisions were made based on what the end customer needed. This eliminated unnecessary functionality and correctly prioritized page elements resulting in lower development costs as well as higher conversion rates.

eBoost requested proposals from three designers. The client was provided with multiple options to choose from. eBoost provided feedback and recommendations on every stage of revisions. The final designs were handed over to eBoost. We then worked with an offshore team to rapidly slice the design into W3C compliant html and CSS while the local developer began work on the database using php.

This resulted in a seamless transition from customer’s needs, wants, and demands to design. The focus throughout the design and development process was based on customers’ needs not stakeholders.
